Table Styling Portfolio
Growing up I was used to having all holiday festivities in our home. For years my mother hosted the entire family on all the major holidays and birthdays. I think to some degree it might have been my mother’s cooking that was bringing everyone in our home. She had her staples for every holiday, like every mom, but no one else cooked like her. She had developed her own micro-cuisine that for me is timeless and instantly brings me back to my childhood.
But most certainly everyone was coming because she actually enjoyed cooking for them, setting a nice table and having all of them around. And we had the nicest china that we only took out for those special occasions, of course :).
Later in life, as I moved far from home, my friends had become like a second family and in the most natural way, I assumed the hostess role.
So for me, celebrations have always been centred around beautifully styled, festive tables where people would share stories and enjoy each other’s company. Everyone gathering around a gorgeous family-style table, with good food and great conversation is my sweet spot.
You can imagine then that table styling is a pretty big thing in my work. Depending on the size of the event and the space I’m creating in, I like to use table styling to tell stories – or tablescaping in its truest sense. Whether the entire story unfolds on the table – like my “Walking through a landscape garden” design below, or the table is the focal point of a bigger experience.
As a designer I want my tables to mesmerise, to create a common point of interest and to facilitate the flow of conversation. Have a look below and see if any of my tables sparks your interest.
